A memorable day at Newbury
Yesterday was a day that we could only have dreamt of. We had a double at Newbury, winning the Manderin Handicap Chase with Silvergrove and the Grade one Challow hurdle with Barters Hill.
Silvergrove started off the day with a bold display of front running and jumping. He jumped superbly and even though he looked to be very tired before the last, was very brave and kept galloping all the way to the line to see off his rivals. It was amazing to see him get his head in front and he so deserved it after an unlucky tack issue at Sandown last time out.
The race after was the Challow hurdle, where Barters Hill destroyed his two other rivals to win by 12 lengths. What impressed me the most was the fact that he is still so green and always looking around at everything but yet still manages to win in such emphatic style. The other two horses didn’t get a chance to challenge Barters Hill as he kept stretching them and galloped on very impressively in the last two furlongs. He now makes it six out of six, which really is something! To gain our first Grade one winner meant a huge amount to the whole team and to have a horse like him in the yard is what dreams are made of. The yard was a very special place this morning even though our heads were slightly sore! Both horses have come out of their races well and were on good form this morning.
We have exciting times ahead now as Barters Hill has been put to the fore in both the Albert Bartlett and the Neptune novices hurdle with several betting firms for the festival in March, until then we keep everything crossed for a smooth run and will be counting down the days….
