Friday 26th of May

Newton Geronimo, was rather excited and played up before the start of the 2-mile Beginners Chase at Towcester, but under superb handling from Nico de Boinville and Tom David they managed to get him to jump off. Even though Newton Geronimo was out of the blocks late, he raced gamely to lead at the eighth before drawing away before 2 out and winning very convincingly by 20 lengths. It was his first start over fences for a while and he jumped brilliantly. Newton Geronimo has been difficult at the start for a while but for the moment we seem to have rectified this and once he is off, he has plenty of ability so is well worth the effort. We are thrilled for his owners/breeders John and Nina Foxon who are great supporters of the yard. 'Jerry' will continue to run throughout the summer and hopefully give his wonderful owners some more success in the coming months.

Always Lion won the Novice Handicap Chase at Market Rasen last Sunday by 2 lengths. He led from pillar to post and jumped beautifully under Nico. It was his debut over fences which made it even more impressive. It was his first run for 556 days after picking up a knock after his Ludlow win. It is great to have him back in such great form. We were hoping and praying for some rain to run him and we got it just in time. He has come out of the race brilliantly and will now go out for a short holiday before coming back into work with the others. It was a great result for Paul and Clare Rooney as they had the 1-2 with Beneficial Joe running very nicely to finish second and I am sure he will be winning plenty over the next few months.
