Saturday 13th of May
As the 2016-17 season draws to a close we can once again be very happy with what we have achieved at Ben Pauling Racing. We have improved on the number of winners for the 3rd season running, finishing on 32 and had our first Cheltenham festival winner for Paul and Clare Rooney with Willoughby Courtin the Grade 1 Neptune Novice Hurdle. A day we will never forget. As with many yards the unusual weather patterns played havoc with the horses at times and resulting in head colds popping up various stages which is never helpful, but I keep telling myself it makes us stronger in the long run! We had 20 3/4yr olds this season (1/3rd of the yard) that look a very nice bunch but we only managed to run 1 with the ground being so quick towards the end of the season, so there is a lot to look forward to in the Autumn. My staff have once again been brilliant. Every one of them in their own way and I cannot thank them enough for their hard work and dedication to the yard and horses. We have sadly said goodbye to Mary who has been my assistant for the last 3 years and has been a huge help in every way. We have all grown together which has been very special. Tom David will now take my assistants role and having been head lad with us for the last two years I am sure he will be a huge asset with his depth of knowledge of the horses and racing in general. Camilla and Rowley have sadly jetted off to sunnier climates for the time being and we wish them every success, they have both been huge assets to the yard and will be missed. But as always a huge thanks has to go to my wonderful team of owners. We already have a very loyal bunch of owners but are very much enjoying being able welcome new owners to the team. Without them the yard simply wouldn’t work and I can’t thank them enough. Finally, I simply couldn’t do it without my amazing wife Sophie and Daughter Tilia, who continue to keep a smile on my face and stop me losing the plot! We are really looking forward to the safe arrival of the newest edition to the family in a couple of weeks, so fingers firmly crossed. We will again be busy at the sales so I don’t think it will be a quiet summer one way or another! Thank you to everyone for the continued support, it means a huge amount and here’s to 2017-18.
Dolatulo kicks off the 2017/18 season in fantastic style winning the 4 Miler at the Cheltenham Hunter Chase Evening. The entirety of the yard was at the evening for our end of season party, where Valda Embiricos' had very kindly lent us her box for the evening – we are certain the noise levels from the winners' enclosure could be heard from Cleeve Hill. Dolatulo, was ridden by Dougie (who does our PR and Social Media at the yard) and owned by his mother, has had a great year from only five runs he has now won two, been second once and also ran at the Festival in the Foxhunters. Dougie rides him every day at home and the pair have created quite a bond. Dolatulo has given a very inexperienced jockey an unbelievable first season on him and hopefully there are many more fun times ahead.
OUR FIRST BPR CLUB PURCHASE!
We are off! Uncle Percy becomes the first Ben Pauling Racing Club purchase and is ready to roll in Handicap Hurdles in the Autumn. He is summering really well and looks to have strengthened up massively already. With a step up in trip and a summer to mature I think he will be a very well handicapped horse.
Come and Join the fun. Check out or bprc page on the website or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
